Roger E. Hess, 79 of Altamont, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Cameron Regional Medical Center. Services will be held at 10:00am Monday, August 2, at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Family visitation will be held from 4-6pm Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt. Ayr Cemetery near Altamont. Memorial contributions may be made to The Olive Baptist Church, in care of the funeral home.
Roger was born April 8, 1931, to Philip and Evangeline (King) Hess in Jamesport, Missouri. Following graduation, Roger worked on the family farm where they raised sheep and cattle. He enlisted in the Navy February of 1952, where he served four years as a Seabee in the Korean War. After returning home, Roger worked on the family farm where they custom cut silage around the country. He later became employed by Jack Reed as a bulldozer operator helping to build Lake Viking, the Winston and Cameron Truck Stops.
Roger was married to Delores Brown on January 9, 1966 in Altamont, Missouri. She preceded him in death in 2008. The couple made their home on the family farm, west of Gallatin, where they lived the rest of their lives. Unto this union, one son was born; Roger “Dale” Hess in 1967. Roger continued working as a bulldozer operator, where he was employed for Burdick construction for 27 years. He was also a member of the Altamont Christian Church.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents, and sister: Marjorie Hess.
Survivors include his son: Dale Hess of Gallatin; brother: Kenneth Hess of Rochester, MN; and two grandchildren.
