Ernie Waterbury, 82 of Jamesport, passed away Tuesday August 31, 2010 at his home. Services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday September 4th at the Baptist Church in Jamesport. Family visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Friends may call after 11:00am on Friday, McWilliams Funeral Home in Jamesport. Burial will be held at the Masonic Cemetery in Jamesport. Memorials may be made to the Jamesport Baptist Church, in care of the funeral home in care of the funeral home Ernie was born November 7, 1927 to Orval C. and Ina I. (Cutshall) Waterbury in Bethany, MO. The Waterbury family lived north of Melbourne and Ernie attended the Rock Island school. Ernie proudly served his country in the US Army. After being discharged from the military Ernie returned to the family farm to help his parents. Ernie married Mona Brandenburg June 25 1949. Ernie and Mona bought a farm southwest of Gallatin and started a dairy business. They had a state of the art facility and sold grade A milk. Ernie also row cropped and hayed, never shying away from hard work. Mona preceded Ernie in death in 1965. On June 27, 1967 Ernie was united in marriage to Leona Hayes in Gallatin. The couple made their home in Jamesport where they lived all of their married lives. Ernie and Leona started there own business E L Waterbury Sales and Service where they installed grain bins and poured concrete floors all over the area; he faithfully served his customers for over 20 years. Ernie and Leona owned and operated another business in Jamesport Leona’s Amish County Shop, a venture they shared for 21 years. They enjoyed the time they spent together in the shop and loved to meet and visit with their customers. Ernie spent his life working and serving the public. In 1989 Ernie retired but was always there to lend a helping hand to his friends or family if they needed assistance.
Ernie was a member of the Jamesport Baptist Church. He had a passion for the outdoors and loved to fish and hunt. Taking fishing trips to Canada was always a highlight. Ernie loved every aspect of fishing; even just casting his line in the Jamesport Community Lake. The couple had a summer home at the Lake of the Ozarks and looked forward to the time they could vacation down south. Ernie could do anything; his legacy of hard work, passion for fishing and his love for family will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved him. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents Orval and Ina Waterbury, his wife Mona, daughter, Wanda Williams, brothers, infant Billie Joe, Charles, Cliff and Delbert Waterbury.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Leona of the home, sons, Jimmy Waterbury of Columbia, MO, James Owings and wife Rachel of Gallatin, daughters, Teresa Owings and fiancé Greg of Huntsdale, MO, Tammy Boguske and husband Steve of Kearney, MO, special grand-daughter, Tracy (Piddlebutt) Owings of Kansas City, MO, brother, Alfred Waterbury of Jamesport, sisters, Kathryn Page of Jamesport, Shirley Henderson of Gallatin, and Frances Gott of Jamesport, MO. nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.
